I have worked with the tattoo art form for twenty years, inspired by Japanese art and tattoo traditions and the way they combine beautiful and violent imagery into a form of high art. To this day I continue to find the entire subject of tattooing deeply fascinating. The tattooed image is a symbol; etched in, poignant, and clearly conveyed. It may convey love, grief, heritage, death, war, whimsy, even fashion and pure adornment. With the tattoo art form the truth of the person wearing the tattoo is expressed. Influenced by my German grandfathers trade, I have become passionate about printmaking, an art form involving etching and carving, into metal and wood, similar to tattooing itself. In my work the craft and technique of printmaking is a perfect way to imitate and compliment the process of tattooing.
