BIO

 

Tania Arens (born 1969 in N.Y.C.) studied painting at the Städelschule (State Akademie of fine Arts) in Frankfurt/Germany and then dedicated herself to tattooing, which led her to printmaking.
She lived in Hawai’i for many years, where she rediscovered her grandparents trade; copper-etching.
She gathered invaluable knowledge from the printers and artists in residence at Hui Press those days, and later on more site-specific techniques followed, like Japanese Woodcut & Papermounting.
Eventually she taught workshops in intaglio and relief printmaking at Hui No’eau Visual Art Center on Maui, monitored their print studio

and assisted other artists with their projects.
She currently lives in Frankfurt/Germany where she also teaches workshops.

 

Her work is about the strange and mysterious side of beauty and its authenticity.

Using etching, woodcut and collage-techniques, she depicts current realities within a mythological realm.

Body and soul in context with our contemporary environment are themes of her work on paper.

Her work has been shown throughout Hawai’i,

in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Frankfurt/Germany.
